The Christmas holiday season coincides with one of the most renowned dance performances in ballet, the nutcracker! It is such an exciting time of year for ballerinas and ballet enthusiasts. My favorite Nutcracker performances feature Russian ballet from the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters. Maria Khoreva is my favorite ballerina and is First Soloist in the Mariinsky theater. She had a spectacular debut in the Nutcracker as the Sugar Plum Fairy following her graduation from the Vaganova Ballet Academy. She may be my favorite but I do at the moment think I preferred the choreography from Bolshoi Ballet.
